creating a meaningful worship environment
The Mary Mother of Mercy Church in Burleigh Heads was envisioned as a contemporary parish that harmonizes with its hillside setting. Commissioned by Burleigh Heads Catholic Parish, this project brought together a team of specialists to deliver a place of worship that is both functional and visually striking.
Peddle Thorpe led the architectural design, shaping a distinctive and purpose-driven space. Citicene was engaged to provide comprehensive landscape architectural services, guiding the project from initial concept through to final completion.
Given the site’s environmental sensitivities, Citicene coordinated key specialists, including arborists and ecologists, to ensure the landscape design met regulatory requirements and enhanced the natural setting. Working closely with Gold Coast City Council, they facilitated approvals and integrated the landscape seamlessly with the built environment.

balancing functionality and aesthetics
The landscape design focused on enhancing the parish grounds, creating a welcoming and cohesive outdoor environment. Citicene provided schematic design and contract documentation for both hardscape and softscape elements, ensuring a balanced and sustainable outcome.
In addition to design services, Citicene played a crucial role in securing approvals for vegetation management under the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection’s legislative framework. Their oversight extended into the construction phase, ensuring the landscape was implemented to the highest standard.
This collaborative effort resulted in a thoughtfully designed worship space that reflects the parish’s vision while respecting the natural surroundings.
