transforming Brisbane’s commercial corridor with innovative design

Centenary Square is a dynamic commercial redevelopment located between Brisbane’s bustling CBD and the vibrant Fortitude Valley. This prime site, featuring an existing multi-storey building and adjoining carpark, has been transformed into a thriving business hub.

Anchored by the 14-level Telstra HQ tower, the redevelopment introduces additional premium office spaces and a modern basement carpark, providing businesses with a well-connected and highly functional workspace.

a landscape design that integrates architecture and functionality

The landscape design focused on a complete refurbishment of the existing building’s forecourt, ensuring a strong visual and physical connection between the existing and newly constructed office spaces. As the forecourt sits on a podium structure, the design required careful coordination to integrate landscaping within the structural limitations of the site.

A key feature of the design was the incorporation of up-stand planter boxes, strategically positioned to reinforce the linear flow between buildings. These planters were carefully aligned with basement supports, ensuring both aesthetic continuity and structural integrity. The landscape also introduced a welcoming internal courtyard, an entry plaza, and a carefully planned streetscape designed to align with Brisbane City Council’s urban requirements, ensuring a cohesive and functional public realm.

To create an immediate visual impact, Columnar Cabbage Palms (Livistona australis) were positioned above existing basement pylons, adding mature greenery to the outdoor plaza. The strategic placement of solid granite seating provided durability while distributing weight efficiently across the podium structure.

A contemporary plant selection was chosen to complement the architectural forms, while high-quality pavement materials reinforced the modern corporate identity of Centenary Square. The integration of public art installations added further depth to the space, enhancing its identity as a premium commercial destination.

landscape design with urban functionality

From paving and seating to feature wall design, every detail of the landscape was meticulously considered to enhance both aesthetics and usability. The entry forecourt was designed for equitable access, ensuring a seamless transition between refurbished and newly built areas. Streetscape elements were aligned with Brisbane City Council’s standards, blending public and private spaces to create a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly environment.

Centenary Square redevelopment in Brisbane seamlessly blends modern landscape design with urban functionality to create a vibrant, connected, and sustainable business precinct.
