a dynamic outdoor food court experience
At the heart of Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre lies a dynamic outdoor food court designed to offer an inviting and vibrant atmosphere for visitors. Citicene was proud to lead the landscape architectural design and implementation, transforming the entire external area, including a large outdoor space that seamlessly flows alongside the food court.
The integration of greenery, unique materials, and thoughtful spatial planning creates an environment that enhances both dining and leisure, elevating the overall ambiance of the space.
enhancing architectural features
The landscape works in harmony with the decorative architectural elements of the shopping centre, incorporating carefully selected materials and plant species to create a cohesive and visually striking setting. Advanced Screw Pines (Pandanus pedunculatus) serve as feature trees, their sculptural forms adding strong character and a distinct sub-tropical presence. A vertical green trellis, covered in Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides), softens the carpark façade, introducing natural beauty while improving the microclimate of the space.
To further enhance the aesthetic appeal, a granite ‘crazy pave’ pavement treatment was introduced, bringing texture and a sense of craftsmanship to the pedestrian areas. A water feature with integrated lighting provides movement and an ambient sensory experience, reinforcing the tranquil yet lively atmosphere of the space.
subtropical planting and textural contrast
Designed to thrive in Brisbane’s subtropical climate, the plant selection includes hardy, low-maintenance species such as Dracaena spp., which add bold architectural foliage and contrast. These plantings are complemented by custom-designed Corten laser-cut panels, which introduce intricate detailing and rust-toned textures, creating a visual contrast against the lush greenery. The interplay between structured elements and soft planting reinforces the project’s modern, yet natural, aesthetic.

A key aspect of the landscape design was ensuring that the outdoor food court remains a welcoming and functional space for visitors at all times. Carefully arranged seating areas provide comfortable places to dine and relax, encouraging social interaction and extended stays. Thoughtfully placed landscape lighting enhances the mood, ensuring the space remains inviting after dark while highlighting key design elements such as feature trees, the water feature, and the green trellis.
