The landscape is an important component of the entertainment and outdoor eating/foodcourt portion of any retail centre and normally requires a high level of detailed design closely coordinated with Architecture and Interior Design consultants. 

Construction budgets can be significant and providing entertainment in outdoor spaces lined with shops, cafe’s, restaurants and retail outlets creates a strong atmosphere and character for shoppers to enjoy.

The landscape often includes:

  • intricate pavements and tiling;
  • feature walls and retaining walls;
  • internal planting areas and interiors-capes;
  • planter boxes;
  • public art;
  • vertical climbers and green walls;
  • shade trees and structures;
  • significant water features;
  • striking plant selections;- play spaces.

Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre

Mount Ommaney, Brisbane, Australia

Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre has undertaken a major refurbishment adding over 17000 square metres of gross let-able floor area.

A key element of the project is the outdoor food court. Citicene were engaged for Landscape Architectural design and implementation for all external areas including a significant outdoor space adjacent to the food court.

The landscape design enhances the decorative architectural exterior components through the use of strong character species selections and finishes selections. It also includes planting of new advanced Pandanus Trees (PANDANUS pedunculatus). 

Some of the landscape architectural features include:

  • a trellis green wall to the adjoining carpark facade. Advanced stock was used to create significant impact on opening day 
  • a water feature with integrated lighting 
  • an extensive pavement treatment in a ‘crazy pave’ granite finish 
  • ex-ground feature trees to provide impact on opening day.
